The Spiritual Clearance Rack
No one likes a deal better than me. When I go
shopping the clearance rack is my first stop. I’m the Queen of Discount. I don’t care if
it’s ripped, dented, missing a button, broken zipper or scuffed up. If
it’s on sale, then I’m scoping it out. I've been known to
settle for less—ending up with junk instead of a bargain.
Sometimes this clearance rack mentality can
carry over to spiritual things. I certainly view myself as chosen by God
and his treasured possession. (Deuteronomy 7:6 NIV) But sometimes I
don’t treat myself that way. I settle for less than God’s best.
I’ve seen it happen in other people’s lives
too. How often in our walk with the Lord do we settle? We accept
less than what the Lord has for us.
- Girls and guys settle for a spouse that is less than what the Lord intended. (Sorry-no returns!)
- We take a job based only on money or power choosing less in the end because we are unhappy.
- Even in our everyday spiritual experiences we may chose the path of least resistance and settle for the comforts of the known and never venture out into the spiritual deep.
We move through our lives in fast forward not
slowing down to hear the still, small voice of the Lord directing us to pray
for someone who is hurting, comfort someone in grief, or witness the life
changing love of the Lord to another. We settle for less than what
the Lord has for us. We are spiritually shopping from the clearance
rack.
God has a plan for YOUR life. Don’t settle for
less than the best. You’re worth it! You are chosen and treasured by the
Lord.
Jer. 29:11 Message: I know what I’m
doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you,
plans to give you the future you hope for.
This is so true Bev, love it!
